Service Learning Reflection

The American Red Cross has over thirty thousand volunteers that helped the community everyday. Some experiences that the volunteers may have is dealing with disaster relief, blood donations and the less fortunate families. These volunteers come in contact with these types of situations to help make lives better like homeless shelters, providing assistance to anyone who needs it.
The purpose of the American Red Cross is “to provide compassionate care to those in need” (American Red Cross, Mission Page). Volunteers give life-saving or improving opportunities like providing shelter for the homeless or in case of disaster. They also provide food services like soup kitchens, medicine and physical and mental health services to the less fortunate. Financial assistance, transportation and tools are provided as well to the public for those who need it. Their main goal is to help and maintain through disasters and of the less fortunate families. Blood services like blood donations are one of the more popular services that the American Red Cross provides. They address life-threatening lack of needs of community members. Such as disasters where they wipe the community or help the financially lacking part of the community. This organization is important to the community because it provides assistance to those who need it. The American Red Cross posts their own news articles about their community work on their website. Current work that the American Red Cross has done is dealing with COVID cases with families. They are currently bring food and health supplies for those in need it.
These services that the American Red cross provides can help me understand emergency medicine in order to help potential patients. Emergency assistance is their main goal where emergency nursing can go hand on hand with. Another degree program that these services offer that it could relate to is Health Administration because it does deal with organizing and advising through emergencies. I would not choose Health Administration as a parallel major. The reason why I would not choose Health Administration as a parallel major is because I do not want to feel like an office job where I deal with numbers of paperwork where I won’t be in the field helping the people who need it the most help.
