The Parallel Major I selected is Health Administration which is a presented major at ODU. The reason of choosing this Parallel Major because this type of major still deals with the compassion of helping others like nursing. Something that interests me about this major is that people with this major are still very involved with the patients’ lives. One fact I found out is that the Health Administration studies healthcare and policy care. Another fact is that you can be a possible leader through this major. One career you can gain from this major is a Medical Assistant. A Medical Assistant is similar to a nurse with administrative duties, but works under a physician by taking vitals, looking up medical history and bloodwork. The additional course I would have to take for this major is health science related courses and policy and management courses. These courses would cover philosophy and oral communication. I could gain professional experience for Health Administration is volunteering in hospitals or receiving a job with a desk job in a healthcare related environment. The advisor that I could talk to if I needed to switch over majors would be Dr. Jim Bellamy who is in charge of the Health Administration major.
