Final Reflection

Reflect on the Fall semester and the overall experience of your first semester at college.

Your First Semester

  • Tell us how you have grown from the beginning of the semester to now.

At the beginning of the semester I struggled to balance school and social life. I prioritize school over everything which made it difficult for me mentally but I learned how to balance both and am better.

  • What were your expectations for this year? Did this semester’s experiences meet your expectations? Explain.

This semester did meet my expectations very well. I expected classes to be difficult and for everything to change and it all did but for the best.

  • What is something you wish you knew 14 weeks ago?

I wish I knew not to waste time trying to force myself to study non stop and that it isn’t as difficult as it seems.

Study Habits

  • How much time do you spend studying for each class now vs. at the beginning of the semester?

I spend less time studying for the majority of my classes because they aren’t as difficult as my chemistry class is. I still spend about 3-5 hours studying chemistry.

  • How have your study habits changed?

My study habits did change. I found a study group so I can study with my friends.

  • Tell us about a resource that you have used/learned about this semester that will assist you next semester.

I learned that studying in a group helps better than studying by yourself. Because you get input from everyone and get the chase to have something you don’t understand explained to you.

  • What study habits/techniques will you use going into next semester?

I learned that making a study guide from your notes and then comparing it to the textbook and making flashcards is the best way to learn the material.

Health Professions Learning Community

  • This semester you were enrolled in at least SOC 201S, and HLTH 101. Many of you were also enrolled in CHEM 105N and CHEM 106N, and some of you were enrolled in HIST 104H with Professor White.
    • On the surface these classes do not appear to be connected; however this semester each professor was intentional about drawing connections between content, and subjects discussed. Discuss the ways in which  these courses are tied together.

In chemistry our textbook gave us real life examples relating to health professions that we talked about in health 101. In the presentations in health 101 we talked about the social inequity that comes with health care availability to everyone which is also something that we discussed in sociology.

Parallel Plan

  1. This semester we had presentations from different majors in the College of Health Sciences as well as from different majors on campus. This was to give you an idea for possible parallel majors to your current intended major.
  • Which two other majors would you be most interested in? Why?

The ER Nurse that came in and the CRN that came in both interested me because I want to be an ER nurse but at the same time the CRN  made me question whether I want to actually do that.

  • What benefit is there to having a parallel plan (or two) in place?

The benefit is that if something goes wrong you’re not caught completely off guard and have nothing to do. You also can work multiple jobs if you end up not liking the one you started at first.

  • How could one or both of these two majors benefit your current intended major?

The one ER major is what I already want to do and the other one would just give me extra experience and prepare me for anything that could possibly happen in the ER.
