Jennifer Shipley (mentor Abby Braitman) was selected for the Psychology PhD program, and Emily Junkin (mentor Cathy Lau-Barraco) was selected for the Clinical Psychology PhD program. They joined a reception at the President’s house in their honor. All members enjoyed some fun downtime as well as presenting findings from their research. Lab members from the ETOH lab and the HaBIT lab (together comprising the REACH student association) went to the Mermaid Factor in Norfolk, VA to create their own personalized mermaids. Just like the iconic statues found around the city of Norfolk. There are over 100 of these statues in Norfolk, and you can use the Interactive Mermaid Spotting Map<\/a> to find them. She practiced hard for several months beforehand to prepare a talk that was 2 minutes and 50 seconds long about her preliminary dissertation findings. Her talk was titled, \u201cDon\u2019t Picture This: Exploring the Link Between Seeing Alcohol Content on Social Media and College Drinking Over Time\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jennifer Shipley and Abby Braitman attended the Inaugural Polysubstance Use Symposium in New York, NY. Jennifer presented a poster and was the recipient of the student scholarship award. Kirschstein Predoctoral Individual National Research Service Award (NRSA) from the National Institute on Alcohol Effects and Alcohol-Associated Disorders.
