Money

I put money as number one because that just makes the most sense to me. A lot of cybercrime is about financial gain, whether it’s stealing credit card information, ransomware, or crypto hacks. People will do a lot for the money.

2. Political

I ranked political second because we constantly see hacktivist groups and even governments attacking each other online. It feels very realistic in today’s world.

3. Revenge

Revenge makes sense because emotions can push people to do extreme things, especially if they feel wronged by someone or a company.

4. Recognition

Some people just want attention or to prove they’re smart enough to break into systems.

5. Curiosity

I think curiosity plays a role, especially with younger hackers who want to see if they can actually do it.

6. Entertainment

Doing it for fun seems possible, but not as common in serious attacks.

7. Boredom

Boredom can play a role, but it usually overlaps with other motives.

8. Other/Personal Thrill

I ranked this last because it feels less structured and often ties into recognition.

Module 5 Journal Entry For this Journal Entry, I ranked the individual motives based on what I honestly think makes the most sense in real life. 1.
