Budget
Based on my understanding of the human factor within cybersecurity, I would provide 30% of my budget to be for the training and scouting process, and 65% of my budget towards providing my employees with additional cybersecurity technology, as well as 5% for emergency funds.
Cybersecurity Training
Cyber security requires significant training and experience to be effective in the workplace. Therefore it is important to spend significant funding on training of non-specialized and specialized employees on cyber safety, according to Comptia.org 95% of cybersecurity breaches are a result of human error (Comptia.org). Having a large budget to train employees to prevent such mistakes can significantly reduce the company’s risk of a cybersecurity breach. as well as the scouting process for acquiring experienced cybersecurity professionals that have a significant impact.
Cyber Technology
However, cyber technology is a rapidly evolving field that is constantly improving and leaving older versions to become outdated and vulnerable. This results in massive expenses meant for cyber technology. Relying on outdated technology would be detrimental to the cyber safety of our company. This is because as we continue to develop our process within the company, we will push for more and more automation for convenience and efficiency. Therefore we will continue to rely on cyber technology, and furthermore the cybersecurity technology to protect those assets.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it is important to develop a balance between cyber technology and training within the information security department of a company. If balanced incorrectly there could be an increase in breaches due to human error or to vulnerable outdated cyber systems. That is why I chose to put 30% of my budget towards cybersecurity training for all employees, 65% of my budget towards cyber technology, and 5% of my budget towards emergency subcategory in the case of unexpected events.
