Week 4 Journal Entry Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs in Technology

The Hierarchy of Needs is a idea in psychology developed by a American psychologist Abraham Maslow explaining the different levels that humans need in their life. Typically, the pyramid goes from low to high, with the lowest being the bare minimum they need and going up lists needs the people need and eventually should strive for. These being physiological needs, safety needs, love and belonging, Esteem, and Self-actualization. In the cyber space however there are more needs. At the start is safety as technology cannot address physiological needs, safety need is for me is learning and keeping myself informed to keep myself safe on the internet. Social needs would be keeping in touch with my friends and family over the internet. Esteem needs and would be finding things that would keep my self-esteem up. Cognitive and aesthetic needs would be learning information like learning how to play guitar or making video essays. Then there is self-actualization which I loop back into the esteem part since I don’t really have any experiences in that level of need.
