Andriy Slynchuk has described eleven things Internet users do that may be illegal. Review what the author says and write a paragraph describing the five most serious violations and why you think those offenses are serious
After reading the article written by Andriy Slynchuk about what internet users do that may be illegal, the five I thought were the most serious was using unofficial streaming services, sharing personal information of others, faking your identity online, collecting information about minors, and illegal searches on the internet. I found that even though all eleven of these things’ people do on the internet can be problematic in one way or another, I also thought these were some common-sense points. For the first one and why I thought it was a serious violation is because pirating not only is illegal to do and you can pay upwards of thousands in fines, which is why for DVDs they have that specific warning, but it can also be a serious risk to your security. The websites that people go to watch pirated movies are usually unstable and sketchy looking, because people who reupload could find ways to get your personal information or install malware if you aren’t careful. The second serious violation would be sharing the personal information of others online, so this could be doxing, sharing ip addresses, passwords, and more. The reason why this is so serious is that it severely impacts the security and safety of that person online and offline, people knowing this information could put them in harm’s way. Number three I don’t think is as serious in some cases where you want to remain anonymous and is actually really smart to do in order to not put your personal information online. However, the reason why this is on here is because some people use it to be someone else, either taking their identity entirely, or just stealing credentials to sign into their accounts to get their money or more information, that is why it is such a serious problem. The next thing is serious because information whether super personal or not is always collected on the internet, companies do it for their algorithms and cookies. However it is illegal for minors’ information to be collected in a survey or in any shape or form, its similar to how on the news they will blur mentioning of a child in order to protect their identity. The final thing that has serious consequences would be doing any sort of illegal searches on the internet. I think this one is self-explained, it makes you look suspicious to authorities and can be proof to arrest you if it’s bad enough.
