Article Review #2
How can be assess the effectiveness of the cybersecurity awareness program?
How topic relates to principles of social science
This topic relates to principles of social science because cybersecurity awareness falls into line of the social part of cybersecurity. Awareness of cybersecurity is not a stagnant thing that people don’t just learn and move on, they have to talk and discuss about how people are taking in this information and how to apply it into life. It is a constant discussion that changes all the time with new studies and research about cybersecurity making people needing to learn and apply it in a new way.
Study’s research questions or hypotheses
The study’s main research question is what metrics do we need to make to assess how effective the cybersecurity awareness program actually is in practice compared to in discussion.
Types of research methods used
The main point of their research was to come up with metrics to evaluate CSA (cybersecurity awareness). So, they did their research by looking in Google Scholar citations. They also used keywords such as, “security + awareness + effectiveness,” (Chaudhary, Gkioulos, Katiskas 2022) as well as the word AND.
Types of data and analysis done
The way they collected and analyzed data was using references from papers they researched on how the CSA actually had an effect or not. So, the measured factors were the effects and changes such as “Intention-in-action to change cybersecurity behavior…level of audience’s behavior…” (Chaudhary, Gkioulos, Katiskas 2022) and more.
How concepts from PowerPoint presentations relate to the article
A concept that the paper talks about in detail that is also mentioned in the PowerPoint presentations is about how in cybersecurity, the human factor is always the weakest link in a cyber attack since computers do what they are programed, but humans are easy to manipulate into getting what they want.
How topic relates to the challenges, concerns and contributions of marginalized groups
The topic does not challenge or contribute to marginalized groups anymore than other groups as this topic is relating to cybersecurity as a whole. It would be helpful to all groups of cybersecurity that practice the awareness, discussion, and application.
Overall contributions of the studies to society
The way that this study contributes to society is when developing these metrics, they can see if the cybersecurity awareness is actually helping people to learn and be safer on the internet. If it is found that it is not having a positive effect, then that would give society a reason to find a better way to bring awareness to cybersecurity and apply it to actual practice instead of just discussion.
Conclusion
To close all that has been stated so far, the authors of “Developing metrics to assess the effectiveness of cybersecurity awareness program” Sunil Chaudhary, Vasileios Gkioulos, and Sokratis Katsikas research and collected data in order to develop a metric to determine the effectiveness of the program. Being that cybersecurity is a topic constantly evolving it is hard for the information to be stagnant and only learned. Cybersecurity knowledge has to be learned, discussed, and applied in order to fully understand and be aware of how important it is in your life and everyone elses.
