As an intern it has been my duty to come up with and find different ways to fundraise for the clinic. I have identified ways to make money for the clinic through the selling of old dental supplies to a metal refinery. I have made a list of all nearby churches in the tri-city area, their contact information, and addresses so my mentor is able to write them letters. These letters will offer our services and ask for donations from these churches.<\/p>\n

My next duty as an intern at Park Place has been to identify which delegates in the tri city area voted yes on a bill which increased annual funding towards the Virginia Association of Free and Charitable Clinics by 5 million dollars. This increase will help Park Place immensely and so it is my job to research and provide the names of the Delegates and Senators who voted yes. My mentor will then write thank you letters personally.<\/p>\n

I have also researched a long list of companies and it was my job to research which companies offered grants and when the applications closes. This list ranged from companies like Amazon to Benco Dental. So far I have struggled to find current applications that are open as the deadlines have passed.<\/p>\n

This has given me insight into how much goes into maintaining non-profits like this. It truly is a community effort that relies on everyone, from donations to aid from the government. It requires a lot of forethought that not many consider when engaging in community efforts<\/p>\n
