Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication
Exploring Culture
Many products and practices can be used to understand cultural perspectives in Hispanic culture. My practice is reading books and articles about Hispanic culture. I also have friends who are from the Hispanic culture and I question them about their experiences and views in the Hispanic culture to better understand more about the cultural perspectives in the Hispanic culture.
There are many stereotypes and misconceptions surrounding Hispanic culture which made me believe them differently now that I’m learning about Hispanic culture, one of the stereotypes I believed was that Hispanics speak Spanish as their first language but now that I have Hispanic friends telling me differently I see Hispanic culture differently. Another common stereotype that people often make about Hispanic culture is that Hispanic people are poor or uneducated which is not true because many Hispanics are highly educated and successful in various fields.
Engaging in Communities
By engaging in your immediate community, you have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the people and places around you. this can include volunteering your time, supporting local businesses, and advocating for issues that are important to your community. At the same time, engaging with the global community allows you to connect with people from different backgrounds and cultures, and to learn from one another. This can help to foster a sense of empathy and understanding, and can also open up new opportunities for collaboration and innovation. Additionally, engaging with the global community can help to address important global challenges such as poverty, inequality, and climate change.

Interpersonal Communication
Inside of class I made spanish study guides and reviewed over key terms and made goals to promote growth in learning spanish. Outside of class I reviewed over my study guide and review over the practice tests / audio activities on Lingro Learning .
Heading into this semester I assumed I wasn’t going to learn anything new but that’s not the issue with Spanish. Through Spanish 101 I proceeded from understanding only “Hola” and “gracias” to comprehending complete sentences and being able to communicate with my classmates in conversations as I would in English. Throughout the course learning Spanish wasn’t easy I struggled the most with pronunciation and accents, I was uncertain about skills like “ser and estar” but as time moved on we persisted to learn and revisit over the material in class and I started to improve drastically. I also struggled with writing in Spanish because of my weaknesses I sought out help from my auntie who tutored me so I could better understand the lessons and enhance my Spanish speaking and writing skills. My strengths with Spanish are knowing the distinction between masculine/feminine singular and plural forms, I’m even good at detecting diverse pronouns, and I can introduce myself in Spanish. My flaws with Spanish are I still have problems with “ser and estar” , pronunciation, and maintaining a lengthy conversation in Spanish. While taking this course I strongly sense my speaking, writing, listening, and reading skills have improved. Connecting words in Spanish that sound nearly like or look like a word in English I was able to click that into my head to help me learn Spanish at a more rapid rate.

Presentational Speaking
Outside of class we had to numerous projects one of these projects included us talking to a classmate in a complete conversation as we would if we was just meeting for the first time in english. (2 minute interview)
Throughout the course we had to complete several presentations in which helped improve my speaking skills. These presentations were challenging for me because i had to comprehend and memorize spanish in order to form sentences to communicate with others. Memorizing and comprehending the language was the most difficult part of making a presentation i overcame these difficulties by repeating a word or phrase i had trouble understanding. I excel at how i was pronunciation my words and using the correct pronoun usage. I will continue to study over my spanish study guides and using Lingro learning as a useful tool to advance my learning.

Presentational Writing
Outside of class i read books and articles pertaining to hispanic culture to get a better understanding of the material learned in class. In class I also did writing activities that I did throughout the semester to help enhance my writing skills.
In the beginning of the semester I had trouble with the writing process of the activities in class but throughout the semester I started to learn more and more and it eventually became more easier like accent placements and pronunciation. I overcame these challenges thru being tutored by my aunt and taking the time to study the material. I didn’t excel at anything i believe when it comes to writing im still struggling now but if it’s one thing i excel at i would say i excel at the pronoun usage . I could definitely improve on my pronunciation and accent placements by using lingro learning and going over writing assignments done in class.

Interpretive Listening
Listening activities I completed to improve my listening skills was listening to the audio clips on lingo learning and also watching youtube video clips of pronunciation of certain spanish words i had trouble pronouncing.
It was challenging to hear a new language being spoken to me but also very interesting and made me even more curious to learn about it and somewhat gave me the motivation to continue learning spanish. I had the most difficulty with how to say certain words with accent . Listening to audio clips on Lingro learning and youtube made me a better listener and it contributed to my learning. Each time i listened to the audio clips my vocabulary grew and branched to new heights.

Interpretive Reading
I would read books and articles that revolve around spanish. In class we would also have to read certain sentences and read them aloud to the class.
One of the challenges of reading spanish for someone who has only spoken english their whole life is that the two languages have different grammar and sentence structures. I was unclear what certain words intended to mean without any context. I overcame this by asking questions in class and getting help from my auntie who’s a fluent spanish speaker. I found learning a new language can be troublesome but it’s also a journey and it’s okay to make mistakes I believe that’s what makes it interesting. Through each assignment where were required to read it encouraged me study and comprehend what I’m reading in order to do well in the course. In each assignment i learn a new word and thats how i have grown through every assignment.
