SPAN 121

Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication

Exploring Culture

Exploring the Hispanic culture can be found in many different products. The way I learn to understand the Hispanic culture are videos on YouTube that go into deep description of the culture and help me understand what the Hispanic culture is like, in addition to YouTube I read books that describe things they do within their culture and their beliefs in their culture. I have friends who are from the Hispanic culture who I spend time with to learn more about their culture and perspectives, asking them questions is also a big help into learning more about the Hispanic culture.

There are numerous misconceptions towards the Hispanic culture which made me believe the misconceptions, since being around many of my friends from the Hispanic culture, reading books and watching videos based on the Hispanic culture I have learned to understand the Hispanic culture thoroughly. One of the many misconceptions of the Hispanic culture is that all Hispanics are unwealthy but with all the resources I use to deeply understand the culture, I have learned otherwise. The Hispanic culture is very skilled and work hard for what they have.

Engaging in Communities

By engaging in communities, it allows you to interact and connect with people from different cultures and backgrounds to learn deeper into their cultures. Things such as supporting local businesses, volunteering, donating blood and environmentalism help engage in communities. Therefore, engaging in the community can help learn from one another and bring up opportunities to come together and collaborate. Engaging in the community can help solve serious problems such as climate change and poverty. Community engagement increases the understanding of problems and helps the communities make decisions that affect their lives and environment. By engaging with the communities, you help deepen relationships with the government organizations and communities.

Interpersonal Communication

This semester for Spanish 102 we had to do an interview called talkAbroad. TalkAbroad is an 15 minute conversation about the topic in class in spanish. The interview is with someone that is random but you get the choice to pick who you want. Also tells you information about your partner such as their hobbies and favorite things.

My first talkabroad went really bad because I was really nervous and wasn’t really prepared. I was using more English than Spanish. I was really having a difficult time with it but my teacher gave me some pointers on what to do which was to make sure I was in control of the conversation. My second time doing it I had more questions and made sure I was in control which I gotten a better grade .

Presentational Speaking

Outside of class I talk to friends and family within the Hispanic culture with complete conversations to improve the presentational speaking. Also, projects that include conversations that help learn the proper ways to pronounce words correctly.

Completing projects and talking with friends have helped me improve my speaking skills. Learning how to memorize Spanish in order to form sentences to communicate with others was challenging for me.
Overcoming these challenges, I have by going over phrases and words I had a hard time understanding. I excel at how to use the correct pronunciation and usage of pronouns. Continuing to use advanced tools such as going over my study guides and using lingo will continue to help me improve my speaking in Spanish.

Presentational Writing

In class I did a lot of writing of

At first it was hard

Interpretive Listening

My listening skills really improved this semester because of lingrolearning. Lingrolearning allowed me to take my time with the listening assignments and also have flash cards that listen to to get a better

Listening to a new language was challenging yet interesting to me. Curiosity rose as I heard a new language, but it pushed and motivated me to learn more about it and the culture behind it. Therefore, listening to YouTube audios and using lingro made me listen better and helped me understand.
Listening to the audio clips from lingre and YouTube improves my listening skills with the Spanish language, listening helps me learn how to pronounce and use the words the proper way when speaking, especially when I have a difficult time pronouncing words with the accent of the language.

Interpretive Reading

I would read articles about the culture of Spanish . In class we would also have to read certain information and read them aloud to the class.
