About Me

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

In my courses I encourage open (respectful) dialogue about relevant topics while incorporating pop culture, current events, and social media to engage with a course topic or theory.  Students are able to think beyond the class text and apply theories and ideas to their personal experiences, and communities.  I believe students take ownership of their education when they are challenged to do more than show up, take notes, and turn in a paper at the end of the semester.

PROFESSIONAL CONSULTING

Over the past eight years I have taken my love of communication from the classroom and started sharing it by consulting on job searches, best practices in recruitment and interviewing, as well as sharing insight on developing a professional presence across social media platforms.

PERSONAL
While originally from Virginia Beach, VA, I am now a resident of Seattle, WA.  I am excited to continue teaching for Old Dominion University from a distance in support of our COMMOnline program in the Department of Communication & Theatre Arts. Travel is a huge passion of mine, and inspired me to work on my (very basic) photography skills, as I’m attempting to capture shots from the amazing places I’m lucky enough to see. Otherwise, when I’m not working you can find me exploring the city with my better half (and pup, Maxi!), kayaking, or trying new things (yoga! bird watching! hiking without falling down for a change!).
