- List list the Community Partner / Organization you chose (Dr. Babik Dental office)
- Provide a brief summary of experiences volunteers can have with the organization
When I volunteered there I got to look at both the dental hygienist and the dentist. They have the chance to get a front row view of what everything the dentist and hygienist do for a living. The hygienist gives tips on the correct ways to sit, hold tools, clean the area, and write a small report on the patient teeth. The dentist shows his different ways he removes wisdom teeth and what he uses to numb the gums.
- Please write a description of the Community Partner(s) by answering these questions:
- What is their purpose / mission?
Their mission is to make sure every patient they get has a comfortable mouth and no problems with it. If you have cavities, ruth canal, wisdom teeth, tooth decay, and gingivitis they will set up certain ways to make it better.
- What services does the partner provide?
They provide cleaning your teeth, checking on the health of your teeth, replacing teeth, and removing teeth. They make sure your oral health is good by doing gum care, root canals, fillings, crowns, bridges, and ways to prevent bad oral health .
- What needs of the community do they address?
Dentists have a role to make sure people have a comfortable mouth because we are always using it. They can help people feel better by making their teeth look and feel better. Make it more comfortable for people to even eat just in case something does happen to their teeth.
- Why is this organization important to the community?
If someone needs to get new teeth or replace some for it can be more comfortable for them to eat and can also help their health as they can eat more things.
- Find one article / video about the organization and the work they are doing in the community. Why Is Dental Health Important? (marshfieldclinic.org)
Has a video and article on why dentistry is so important.
- After reflecting on the organization’s goals and mission, have your values, opinions, and/or beliefs about the importance of health changed or grown? Be specific.
It has grown because I really found that our mouths are moving all the time without us even knowing. Keeping our oral health is very important in life as that is what a lot of people see as it is on our face. It’s great to see people love the same type of field and see them enjoy their line of work. It motivates me to keep preceding to do this major and push myself.
- Thinking about the community partner:
- How do these services relate to your intended career field?
It’s mostly the same major I want to do which is dental hygiene that’s why I decided to go there.
- What Degree Program (other than your current major) could it relate to?
If I ever wanted to extend my study and do dentistry then I could do that as well.
- Would you choose to pursue that major as your parallel major?
I’m not sure but it might be a possibility.
- Why or why not?
If I use it as a parallel major I would have to be in school for more years and that’s not what I really want. If I ever change my mind it would be a good thing to have some of those classes out the way.
