The letter is notifying and encouraging customers to take action and protect themselves , which is a major principle of victimology. The second social science theory is Social Contract Theory, which is defined as the strength and durability of an individual’s bonds or commitments to conventional society inhibit social deviance. This relates to the letter because the breach being a violation of the implicit trust or agreement between the company and its customers. The first economic theory is the Laissez-fare theory, which is an economic philosophy of free-market capitalism that opposes government intervention except to protect individuals’ inalienable rights. In this context, there are government regulations enforced so that customers know if there data ahs been compromised. The second economic theory is the rational choice theory, which sheds lights on how individuals might response to the beach. Rational choice theory is defined that individuals make decisions by weighing the costs and benefits. In the aftermath of a data breach, customers are urged to take actions to protect themselves, illustrating rational choices based on the perceived costs of potential identity theft.
