About Me

My name is Allysa Butler, I am currently a Junior at Old Dominion University. My major is in Human Services and I am minoring in Psychology. In the future my goal is to work in Child Advocacy. I have a passion for wanting to help those without a voice and want to be a human services professional that children can rely on and trust.

I began taking the Spanish 101 course to begin working on language barriers that will be presented in the future. I want to be able to advocate for clients who may be more comfortable speaking another language and as Spanish is a dominant spoken language in the United States I feel that it would be important to learn how to speak and understand the culture more to become a more efficient Human Services professional. I am originally from Japan and my mother is full Japanese, seeing the struggles she had with language barriers pushes me to want to be able to do better for those in the future. I feel that it is important that we can advocate for those around us.
