Entry 1
Why am I interested in cybersecurity technology? I am interested in cybersecurity technology because I have always wondered how computers operate and how they can be manipulated, but, most importantly, protected from threats. I’ve also found it interesting just how much software and hardware have evolved in the last few decades since the birth of computer technology. As computers and technology evolve so do cyber threats and criminal ways of doing things and I’ve always wanted to be part of defending against such things. The digital age isn’t slowing down anytime soon so I can see a lot of opportunities in the field of cybersecurity and I’m also curious to see where cybersecurity technology will have grown in the coming decades. Something else that also catches my interest in cybersecurity technology is that because it is always changing, it won’t be another mundane experience or dead-end work experience and that it also ties into other majors.
Such as: Cyber operations, Criminal Justice, Computer Science, and Cybercrime. All of these are considered interdisciplinary courses with cybersecurity. The Cyber operations major deals in both the technical and non-technical aspect in cyber space and relates to cybersecurity by learning skills such as defending from system attack, infiltration, exploitation, defense, mitigation, and recovery. Criminal Justice relates to cybersecurity through study of cyber crimes like hackers, hacktivists, and cyber terrorists who steal data or sensitive information from businesses and people. Computer Science relates to cybersecurity by focusing on the hardware and software technology used in cyber applications and is a baseline of computer knowledge that anyone who works with technology should have. It also has a focus on network and database administration and information system security, which is also a focus of cybersecurity. Cyber crime relates to cybersecurity by cyber related crimes and information technology, including cyber laws and computer crime investigation. This also ties in with digital forensics, computer networking and programming. Cybersecurity relates to all these in one way or another since cyberspace is such a major part in modern society.
