You can tell a computer is safe by scanning it frequently, having up to date anti-virus software, correct privacy settings throughout applications, updated system software, and testing your firewall. Also, deleting junk files or old files that are no longer necessary but contain sensitive information. Just having all of that doesn’t always ensure your computer is safe so it requires a lot of attention, so making sure everything is up to date and choosing the right software go hand in hand.
Computers have made the world safer by interconnecting us all over the globe. The amount of knowledge and information that can be sent around the world almost instantaneously keeps people in the know and prepared for whatever may be going on. For example, COVID-19, word of its spread gets out quicker through technology than it would any other way. As safe as computers have made the world, they have also made it just as dangerous. Bullying or cyberbullying is on the rise and even though there are programs and policies put in place it still finds a way in. Another way computers have made us less safe is our dependence on them. All of our personal data and information is out there in a server or database somewhere waiting for someone to breach it and take everything that you are. That would include your finances, medical information, personal identity, and much more. Computers are involved in almost everything we do today so for someone who isn’t tech savvy or knowledgeable of technology they become targets as well for malicious hackers. Lastly, hackers have the whole world in front of them just by sitting in front of a computer screen. Depending on their skill level, a hacker could bring a small business, a large company or organization down by stealing sensitive data or assets.
