journal entry #8

After watching the video, about how movies and TV shows depict hacking scenes I realized how much our views, on cybersecurity are shaped by the media. Hollywood tends to show hackers as individuals who can breach any security system in no time just by typing rapidly on a keyboard. This exaggerated portrayal makes hacking appear effortless whereas in life it involves research, patience and a deep understanding of systems. The media also tends to portray hackers as either heroes or villains simplifying the reality of cybersecurity challenges. The way the media presents information can make people underestimate dangers or have beliefs, about how fast security issues can be resolved or improved upon in reality. That overall dramatic depiction, by the media can alter individuals perceptions of cybersecurity by playing down the significance of taking precaution and understanding the factor at play.
