Pre-Semester Reflection

I am most excited to meet new people for my first semester of college. I expect keeping myself from procrastinating to be my biggest challenge this semester. My other time commitment is work. I plan to work about 13-15 hours a week. I plan to work on homework when I’m not at work, and also when I have downtime at work. In high school, I was in a bunch of honor societies. I want to join a sorority, health-related clubs, and maybe even some leadership organizations as well.

My intended major is nursing. I chose this major because I love helping people, and I want to continue helping people my whole life. The medical field has always interested me as well. I have good communication skills, decision-making skills, and teamwork skills. I also pay close attention to details. All of these skills are very important for a nursing career. During my senior year, I was in the hospital, and the nurses there were so nice. Before this, I was going back and forth about being a nurse or doing something in the criminal justice field. The nurses treating me so well made me finally decide on doing nursing. In 5years, I want to be working at a 9-5 office job or in a hospital as a pediatric nurse. In 10 years, once I get some experience working in the nursing field, I want to become a forensic nurse

I expect the biggest difference between high school and college to be that the classes are going to be harder. I feel like a lot of homework in college is designed to actually help you in your classes, whereas in high school a lot of homework was just busywork. Because of this, I don’t think there is but so big of a difference between studying and homework in college, whereas in high school the two were completely different. In THEA 241A, I expect to spend about 2 hours per week studying. In CHEM 105N, I expect to spend about 2-3 hours per week studying. In HIST 104, I expect to spend about 2-3 hours per week studying. In SOC 201S I plan to spend about 2-3 hours per week studying. I expect to not spend really any time studying for CHEM 106N and HLTH 101 because there’s nothing to study for, just assignments. Lastly, in ENGL 110C, I expect to spend around 2 hours a week studying. I plan to study at my desk in my room. Some potential distractions are my dog and my phone. I plan to avoid these distractions by not letting my dog in my room while I’m doing homework, and by putting my phone on the other side of the room. The best time of the day for me to study is in the evening after dinner. This is because I like finishing off my day by studying because it makes me feel like I’ve had a successful day. For me, writing notes and color coding them I think is the best study technique for me
