Exploring Culture

I don’t have a good understanding on cultural perspectives. I have seen that a lot of Spanish cultures have different views and ways of speaking. I have learned that expressions are very big in the Spanish speaking world and can help you navigate a lot on the mood of a situation.

Engaging in Communities

I have not engaged in my community as much as I should. It is important to be involved in your community because you can make a change and help better the community

Interpersonal Communication

My sister’s girlfriend speaks Spanish. Because she speaks Spanish, I often communicate with her in Spanish. I mostly listen to what she says, but I am able to say a few phrases back. Lingrohub activities such as the grammatical ones have helped me be able to retain enough information to understand what is being said.

My performance for assignments on Lingrohub has went down as the unites progresses. But with every new chapter I have tried my best and I have learned new phrases in words to incorporate into my speaking and writing. I have learned that I really need to take my time and study Evey single day. And it is very helpful to communicate with someone who can both understand and speak Spanish somewhat fluently.

Presentational Speaking

For class I had to make a presentation of some places on campus that I like to go. This assignment objective was to speak in Spanish and to inform people on where I go on campus and some of the things that I do. This assignment was to also describe the place I was at and give a description of the place.

Then, in a paragraph, write a reflection that includes each presentation you completed in which you explain what challenged you and how you grew and overcame those challenges.  What did you excel at? What/how would you do differently next time? 

Presentational Writing

I have not had an assignment that required me to do presentational writing.

I have grown since the beginning of the year. I have learned to describe places and myself with enough clarity for people to understand me. It is really difficult for me to remember how to say everything and to remember the correct order everything goes in. I have gone over my notes to remember all of the little words and phrases that are used. I still struggle with remembering everything, but I am able to understand someone who is speaking Spanish to me for the most part. I exceled at remembering what I could and trying my best. I could study harder to try and lock in more information.

Interpretive Listening

I listen to Spanish speaking artist. Because of that most of their music is spoken in Spanish and I have to listen closely to understand what is being said. Because of Spanish class I am able to get a general idea of what a song is about by taking out some words or descriptions.

I have listened to a lot of Jessie Reyez music, and she does have some songs that are written in Spanish and require me to actually listen attentively to know what she is saying and talking about. Along with listening to her music I have also listened to some simple pod cast that just talk about everyday things in a not so fast manner. It is challenging to sometimes understand what beings is said, but I can sometimes figure out what is being said based on other words in a chord or speech surrounded by the unknown word or phrase. I found that listening to music helps me a lot when it comes to remembering Spanish. I have grown because of these two forms of interpretive listening.

Interpretive Reading

I have read a few short stories in Spanish to try and better myself at being able to understand Spanish and understand what I read. It can be a little easier to understand what I read in Spanish then what I hear. I have also had to read in Spanish when on Lingrohub, because a lot of the reading were in Spanish.

I read some poems and kids short stories. Some of the poems were hard to understand because I didn’t learn some of the words, but rereading the poem helped me be able to remember some of the words. I found it interesting some of the words that were used for simple things like caterpillar in Spanish is oruga and having to get across the tone of a poem in a foreign language is a bit of a struggle. I have seen some growth in my Spanish speaking/ communication.
