Exploring Culture
Contresena culture assignments were a really good source of learning which countries or places do certain things or accept certain things.
These assignments showed me how different places view different things like same sex marriage or depending on what sex you are the views of having a job or what type of job. Contresena was a big help with helping me understand and learn Spanish.
Engaging in Communities
Engaging in your community is very important. Especially if someone is trying to learn a language. Because learning a language can be difficult if you don’t constantly go over that language or communicate in that language being inserted into that environment can be dire.
Reflect on your experience and participation in these communities. Include artifacts such as photos, audio/video clips, etc.
Interpersonal Communication
Talk Abroad is an assignment that involves conversating with a person who only speaks what you’re learning about. I am learning Spanish so my Talk Abroad only involved people who spoke Spanish.
Talk Abroad definitely gave me insight into what is expected when having a conversation with a Spanish speaking person. When learning a new language, it can be difficult and stressful to remember everything that you learn. Talk Abroad helped me realize I need to go over vocabulary more so I can better understand what is being said.
Presentational Speaking
A presentation on how to make a food that i like was made. I talked about a food I regularly enjoy and how i make it.
In my presentation i talked about how to make a ham sandwich and what I liked to eat with it. I did fairly well on this assignment, but I needed to do better with conjugating my words and go over my vocabulary more as to not stumble over my words as much.
Presentational Writing
A presentation for writing I have done is a flier on mental health.
This flier was on mental health and how it can be hard and some things that can be done to help destress. This flier was done well, but I did need to do better on remembering some verbs and when to switch the order of my words.
Interpretive Listening
in Contresena I have had to listen to some phone calls or videos to see how words may be said.
Listening to these phone calls or videos was a little hard because an accent was so strong or the speed of the person talking was fast. I did try to pull some words out or pay attention to the actions or hand gestures that were being made by the person.
Interpretive Reading
Some reading assignments i have done is on Contresena. Some assignments i needed to read articles or fliers to better understand Spanish.
Something challenging for me while reading these activities was to understand the full text of what was seen. I was able to pull some words out based off of what I knew and piece together what was trying to be said.
