Article #1 Review: Cyberbullying and Cyberbullicide Ideation Among Jordanian College Students

Introduction: How can the topic of Cyberbullying and Cyberbullicide relate to the principles of social science? 

There are many ways that the topic of Cyberbullying and Cyberbullicide can relate to the principles of Social Science. Ways like how you interact with society and human behavior are some of the main factors. Social Science involves concepts like criminology, psychology, and society, which all ties in with Cyberbullying and Cyberbullicide. In this article, it can explain how Cyberbullying can influence social behavior/interaction and effects it can have on a person’s mental health, stress, and even self esteem. It all ties in with the Social Science principles with how it influences behaviors in social media, mental health, and culture. It is quoted in the article “Mentally,victims may become depressed,anxious,and develop stress Related conditions.Low self esteem is also common.Cyberbullying and bullying increase the risk of victims developing  suicidal thoughts and self harm”.

The Study’s research questions/Hypothesis ?

In this article, most of the study’s research questions/hypotheses relates to the topic of how Cyber bullying can lead to suicidal thoughts. It’s been researched that Cyber bullying has caused a higher rate of Cyberbullicide towards some college students. The Hypothesis is how Cyber bullying can lead to suicidal thoughts highly amongst college students and can affect there mental health. Its quoted in this article that “It examines the effects of a host of cyber bullying variables including cyber bullying victimization, cyber bullying perpetrator,and low self control on Cyberbullicide ideation. It investigates the health risk factors associated with cyberbullying such as hopelessness,lack of interest in life,Desire for death, Cyberbullicide thoughts,and readiness to die.” This quote represents the hypothesis of the article. 

Types of research methods Used ?

A method that was used in this article can be quantitative research. It uses this research method in a way to cellect data on the topic of Cyberbullicide/ suicidal ideation towards college students in Jordan.

Types of data and analysis done ?

The types of data and analysis done in this article was focused on Cyberbullying victimization and contributions to Cyberbullicide. The data and analysis in the article was questionnaires and surveys aimed towards college students.

How concepts from the powerpoint presentations relate to the Article?

Concepts that were presented from the powerpoint relate to the article because it shows the effects/impact Cyberbullying can cause and just like in the power points in the article it shows social behaviors, mental health and how Cyberbullying can have negative outcomes etc.

How does this article relate to the challenges, concerns, and contributions of marginalized groups? 

It relates to challenges, concerns, and contributions of marginalized groups by how Cyberbullying and Cyberbullicide is aimed higher towards Jordanian college students. It relates due to the risk of victimization, mental health and things of that nature that comes with Cyberbullying towards Jordanian college students.

Conclusion: Overall contributions of the studies to soceity?

This article can contribute to society by spreading awareness towards mental health and to prevent the causes that Cyberbullying can bring to society as a whole. In conclusion, with this article being aimed towards college students in Jordanian and them having high rates of Cyberbullying and Cyberbullicide, this article can change the outcome perspective of online bullying and can help students reduce Cyberbullicide.

Article Review #2: Private Threats In Intimate Relationships. By: Karen Levy and Bruce Schneier

How the topic relates to the principles of the social science.

The issues with privacy threats in intimate relationships, that was explained by Karen and Bruce, have a few topics that relate to the principles of the social sciences. With the crossings of intimate relationships and digital privacy it could cause things like one’s emotions or emotional well being as well as decision making. By exploring and testing this issue using psychology and sociology, it helps researchers understand some of the privacy violations and use that to find better ways to solve it. Karen and Bruce stated that “technology is both a tool for connection and, when misused, a powerful means of undermining personal autonomy and trust in intimate relationships.

The study’s research questions

The research question in this article was about the crossings between technology and privacy in intimate relationships. Karen and Bruce dives in on the understanding of how technology can influence and cause an impact on privacy boundaries in relationships. 

Types of research methods used

Research methods used in this article are qualitative and theoretical methods. It explores privacy risk in intimate relationships. It shows research backgrounds, and it has real world problem examples. These methods qualitatively and theoretically accurately show and explain the violation of privacy issues with technology and it correlates with today’s modern relationships. 

Types of data and analysis done

There was a few data and analysis done that Karen and Bruce used for their research. Qualitative and theoretical methods, as well as literature review. These all were used to study and figure out the social and emotional problems with privacy violations. 

How concepts from the powerpoint presentations relate to this article.

Some of the topics and things through these presentations in class very much so in some ways can relate to this article. Shows how digital security in technology can lead to possible privacy risk and even concerns in intimate relationships. With most of the presentations we’ve learned about involving digital privacy, and data security and making sure to have secured information even from the ones you know, It all relates and shares similarities of what we’ve learned in this article. 

How the topics relate to the challenges, concerns and contributions of marginalized groups.

Based on this article, the main focused marginalized groups aimed towards mainly women, people of color and LGBTQ community. In the article they showed how these groups are affected by the privacy in intimate relationships. The main challenges and concerns were privacy rights. 

The overall contributions of the studies to soceity/ conclusion

In conclusion, The overall contribution is raising the awareness of risk in digital surveillance in an intimate relationship. It also creates a good/better understanding of legal and ethical challenges that marginalized groups deal with. It also provided a contribution in understanding privacy and trust even in a relationship with technology.
