Artifact 5

The ‘Item to Archive’ in module 7 helped me learn a lot about attitudes and behaviors. Most of all, this module taught me about cognitive dissonance. Before this course and before this module, I had no idea about the feeling of dissonance. This module helped me understand some of the feelings I had about myself and why.

Taking the surveys on attitude and behaviors caused me to look at what I was doing and wasn’t doing. I answered the surveys as honestly as I could to get the best results for this activity.

I chose this image because it perfectly explains cognitive dissonance and it is humorous. People know that some of the things they do are viewed negatively but they don’t always care.

Article 4

The ‘Item to Archive’ in module 3 will be my fourth artifact. This activity required me to survey a couple of people about attraction. I learned that attraction can be based on a variety of things, but society has pushed the notion that “opposites attract.”

Matthew Woodring Stover Quotes: Opposites attract, but similarities bind. ...

I chose this image/quote because it brings some truth to the popular saying, “opposites attract” while also saying similarities matter too. Being different is not always a good thing, being on the same page is good too.

Article 3

The ‘Item to Archive’ in module 6 will be my third artifact. I liked this activity a lot because it allowed me to talk about and evaluate some of my personality traits. This activity was fairly simple and straightforward but it also taught me that there can be different consistencies with behavior and personality traits. Throughout the time I spent working on this assignment it made me think about how inconsistent and consistent my traits and behaviors can be.

While completing this activity, it made me self-conscious about my behavior and how I am seen by the people around me. Some of the traits that I came up with, can be seen as negative or undesirable, but in my opinion, those five traits that I listed in this activity don’t make me undesirable or a negative person. The people around me and my environment all play huge roles in how my personality formed.

I chose this image because it encompasses the different things that contribute to what makes me who I am and why I have some of the traits that I do.

Artifact 2

The ‘Item to Archive’ in module 5 will be my second artifact. Before this class, I had never heard of self-enhancement or other enhancement, so learning about these two concepts was fun and interesting. I learned that subconsciously almost everyone does something to impress others around them, sometimes without realizing it. This activity made this clear because, at one time or another, I have witnessed or have done some of these things myself. Sometimes in life, there are just some things that have to be done in order to feel good and make others feel good about you.

There are certain things that humans do to make themselves look presentable, not only for themselves but for society as well. No matter how many people say that they don’t care about what others think about them or how they present themselves, deep down inside they have certain self-enhancements and other-enhancements strategies that they do care about.

Ideas for self care - Moodspark
https://moodspark.org.uk/ideas-for-self-care/

I chose this image because it embraces the idea of self-care and indulging in things that society often ridicules people for. Also, if we aren’t taking care of ourselves then society often times makes people aware and that causes chaos. Taking some time for self-care is helpful for not only you but also for the people around you.

Artifact 1

This artifact taught me a lot about stereotyping, discrimination, and prejudice. This activity taught me that there are more ethnic/racial groups that face tons of stereotyping and discrimination than I previously thought. While completing the activity, it made me think about how the adjectives that were provided are used to describe the groups on the prompt. Living in America as a young black woman, has taught me more than I would have ever thought it would. The stereotypes I hear everyday about women and Black people are mind-boggling.

The ‘Item to Archive’ in module 8 resonates with me, ultimately making it my favorite artifact that I have completed. As an African-American, I along with others in my community have been stereotyped and discriminated against numerous times for no reason. This activity allowed me to really see how other ethnic/racial groups experience the same thing and how it needs to stop.

I chose this particular photo to be my Representative Visual Image because it depicts the idea that standing together may ultimately make a difference in how the world treats black and brown people. The tension in our country right now boils down to blatant racism, discrimination, stereotyping, and prejudices toward minorities. This module brings clarity and information, making it my favorite.
