How do engineers make cyber networks safer?
Engineers are a key component when wanting networks to be safe. Since many engineers create and manage different softwares and hardwares to protect systems, networks, information and data. Cyber Security engineers are a mutli-disciplinary career involving computer-science, information technology and electrical engineering. It is also a high demand job since cybersecurity engineers help in preventing or minimizing many cyber attacks/threats, by doing so, many companies and users’ information are kept safe, protected, and secured. Some tasks completed by cybersecurity engineers include monitoring and responding to attacks, enforcing security controls and systems, reporting and communicating, testing networks and security systems to make sure there are no vulnerabilities. Especially in this day and age where the majority of this world is heavily reliant on technology, engineers main goal is maintaining sanctions so society can live peacefully, without having the fear of their privacy and data being tainted by other instances such as cyber criminals/attackers. “The world needs 2 million cybersecurity professionals to assist every small, medium and large business, which must deal with cybersecurity issues.”(Houston Christian University). With that said, cybersecurity engineers are being ignored since many don’t understand the significance of it. “Cyber engineering has been overlooked, or underdeveloped, in addressing cybersecurity risks and vulnerabilities among industrial control systems and other Internet of Things networks and devices.”(Houston Christian University)
There are several reasons as to why cybersecurity engineers are beneficial and important. One being they protect users and businesses from harmful cybercrimes. Many of these cybercriminals’ objectives are to cause chaos, confusion, financial gain, disruption of processes, and gain unauthorized access. By doing so it puts individuals and companies at risk of extortion, damage reputation, and interrupt activities. Another significance is creating systems to ensure safety of sensitive information and data, since many attackers target these types of intel. Cybersecurity engineers help in preserving these inputs, enhance productivity and efficiency, place regulations, enforce better data management, and help maintain trust and integrity within the community of technology.
