What is the overlap between criminal justice and cybercrime? How does this overlap relate to the other disciplines discussed in this class?

Criminal justice and cybercrime tend to overlap each other due to the rise of cyber criminals and crimes being committed. Both disciplines strive to ensure safety for individuals by displaying several factors occurring. Also taking into account, there is a vast majority of criminal justice jobs that require a cybersecurity specialist. Jobs such as Information Assurance Auditor, Malware Analyst, Security Systems Engineer, and Cyber Security Consultant.
We can start by looking at the law. Both subjects cater to the law, while criminal justice focuses on the general law, taking into account several different types of crime being committed. Cyberlaw tends to focus on the behaviors displayed online, “Cybercrime law provides rules of conduct and standards of behavior for the use of the Internet, computers, and related digital technologies, and the actions of the public, government, and private organizations”( Katharina). Criminal justice and cybercrime can work together to find the best ways for police to respond to certain situations, what punishment should be given depending on the offense, how to detect these offenses, and create different types of prevention strategies to combat these threats. Another factor to take into account is a branch of criminal justice, which is criminology (the study of crimes, their behavior, and attributes, while taking into account the criminal justice systems.) We can compare the social effects and human behavior, such as why these criminals commit these crimes. Who is committing them? What pattern might these criminals display? and so on. We can examine different types of crimes and motives both committed online or in person. “The unique partnership of criminology and cyber security provides you with a thorough understanding of the motivations, causes, and consequences of crime, as well as the technical skills and cyber security literacy to help prevent and combat cybercrime and cyber terrorism.”(Deakin University, 2024)
