I have never been much on listening to podcasts. There is no particular reason why, I just haven’t. I did some exploring this week, and I found my favorite in the Librarian Podcasts- Book Riot. I thought I needed some laughs, and it seemed like it might be the place to go. In the top 13 must hear list, the Drunk Librarians Podcast jumped out at me. I am not a drinker, but I just didn’t know how I could go wrong with that choice. “Where the Crawdads Sing” was my favorite. That is one of my favorite books of all times, so I wanted to see what the drunk librarians had to say about it. There was a lot about the book and a lot about things only a drunk librarian would think about. They got sidetracked pretty often, but it was an entertaining description of the plot.

  1. Hi Ashlee,
I just wanted to weigh in on podcasts. I am usually a big podcast fan but I find that I enjoy them most when I am hiking or running or doing something where my attention is not drawn away easily. My two favorites are This American Life and How I Built This. I have tried listening to new podcasts with some success and some failures. I find the hosts make a big difference. So for example I tried the Drunk Librarians too. I am a drinker and thought this would be funny but instead I found the hosts annoying. I loved the The Librarian is in from the NYPL because the hosts had a good rapport and nice voices. In thinking about how to introduce Podcasts to students I think I would offer a wide range of choices, highlighting the broad range and diversity of podcasts available and encourage students to try many and to not feel bad if they don’t like something.

    1. They were definitely annoying at times! I had to listen to several to find one I liked. I will go explore The Librarian and see what I can find. It will be nice to not have to listen to all the F bombs!

  2. Hi Ashlee,

I love listening to podcasts on the way to work, although that got put on pause during the pandemic. I felt like the car ride was a nice quiet time to be able to focus while listening to episodes. I will definitely have to check out the Drunk Librarians podcast. Sounds like fun!

  3. I also have trouble listening to podcasts. I have found some crime podcasts that interest me, but I tend to get lost in my own thoughts. I think reading is more engaging for me because of the visual input. I think Drunk Librarians is a great idea! Haha! I may have to branch out from the crime drama and check this out.

  4. I’m with you. I’ve tried a couple of podcasts, but haven’t seem to find one that keep going back to. Book Riot sounds interesting. You sound much more patient than me with finding one that you enjoyed. 🙂
