Reducing HIV Transmission in Limpopo, South Africa

This project was part of Health, Culture, and Diversity – Reducing Disparities in Public Health class. The purpose was to choose a health disparity and a community that was impacted by it, then develop a public health intervention that was culturally competent. For this project I chose the six-step intervention mapping approach to program development. The main concept behind the program is to develop relationships between traditional ethnomedical practitioners and biomedical practitioners to create an HIV prevention and treatment program that benefits all stakeholders and is culturally appropriate for the region. In the materials below you will find community information, research sources, and the entire outline of the proposed program.

YMCA The Importance of Warming-up

During my time at the YMCA I was a personal trainer and yoga instructor. On several occasions I was invited to speak on various topics related to fitness, exercise and wellness. One of these speaking events I was brought in to discuss the importance of warming up before strenuous exercise for a program that was put on by the YMCA. The audience for this specific event was made up primarily of runners, most of whom were only a few months into their journey with running and whose goal was to run a 5k by the end of the program.

Bringing healthy eating and sustainability to a rural California Café

This was a paper and presentation for MPH 784 Creating Sustainable Environmental Futures. The purpose was to create a local sustainability initiative. As you will see in the materials below, I chose a local cafe where I would spend a lot of time doing homework. This initiative would help bring sustainability efforts to the cafe while also serving the local community and boosting the local economy.

Florida Diphtheria Outbreak Investigation

This project was created for MPH 717- Epidemiology of infectious Disease, and the goal was to create an outbreak report for a mock disease outbreak in a setting of our choosing. It highlights skills such as using appropriate outbreak description methods, data analysis using SAS software, and presenting public health data using appropriate scientific reports. Below you will see my report on a mock Diphtheria outbreak in Lee County Florida.
