Mission Statement:
To use my knowledge, skills, and experience, to inspire the communities I am part of to work towards a healthier and more equitable future for all.
Three areas of public health I am interested in are:
- Sustainability: I strongly believe it is possible to meet the needs of the world’s population while leaving the planet in a state where future generations can also meet their needs. Sustainability is not just an issue of environmental health, but also of social and environmental equity. Equity is often a missing component to the sustainability discussion that public health professionals have opportunity to impact.
- Environmental Justice: Health is dependent on the environment in which one lives. Health equity is only possible when environmental justice is also addressed. The communities most harmed by environmental hazards and climate change are also the ones who are already vulnerable in our society.
- One Health: This is where public health began for me. Human health cannot be successful without also considering the health of the environment in which we live and the animals we interact with.
My contribution to the field of Public Health:
I plan to contribute to the field of public health through my work with the federal government. This career path, which began with my applied practicum experience, has allowed me to take part in discussions, research, and program development within the U.S Food and Drug Administration. My goal is to take the knowledge I have gained through this MPH program and to develop a full-time public health career that will have the ability to impact health policy and programming at the federal level.
