Three Professional goals I expect to achieve during this experience are:
- Develop and refine my ability to effectively communicate public health messages and coordinate outreach efforts to diverse community groups.
I aim to actively create and disseminate instructional materials through a variety of channels, such as social media postings, community talks, and informational flyers, to accomplish this goal. I want to customize my messaging to speak to a range of audiences by concentrating on different community groups and accounting for cultural sensitivity and differing health literacy levels. To help me improve my approach continuously, I will also ask my superiors for constructive criticism on the communication tactics I use. The success of my outreach initiatives will need to be regularly evaluated, and I’ll make necessary adjustments to my materials in response to criticism. Ultimately, to provide myself with fresh knowledge and techniques for my internship, I will participate in training courses or seminars on effective public health communication.
2. Strengthen my leadership abilities and project management skills by taking on increased responsibility in coordinating health improvement initiatives.
To achieve this goal, I intend to have introspective conversations with my mentors to evaluate my prior leadership experiences and pinpoint my areas of strength and development. I will have the chance to apply project management techniques in practical settings by offering to take on leadership positions in small projects. I will also ensure that I attend weekly leadership meetings that will further equip me with the right tools for becoming a great leader. I will gain practical experience that will assist me in learning how to assign duties efficiently, inspire team members, and overcome obstacles that may come up when implementing a project. In addition, I want to become acquainted with project management methods and resources, as this will improve my ability to organize myself and guarantee the accomplishment of health-related projects.
3. Build relationships with public health professionals, community leaders, and organizations in Portsmouth to enhance future career opportunities.
To network with important public health stakeholders, I will actively engage in the meetings, seminars, and community activities that Healthy Portsmouth hosts to accomplish this aim. By taking part in these events, I will be able to network with experts who have similar interests and obtain insightful knowledge on the state of public health in the community. Sharing pertinent articles and making contributions to internet forums will allow me to establish myself as a knowledgeable and involved professional. I will also make it my point of duty to get in touch with new people following events to strengthen these bonds and look into any future career or mentoring opportunities.
