Pay it forward was an assignment that involved helping a stranger and by doing so hopefully, that person would then in return help someone. I chose this image because it represents how only one person or “heart” did three things which then led to each of them to do three things. From one person came twenty-seven people affected by a good deed. If this were a requirement for everyone every week, the world would be in a much better place. Pay it forward does not have to be a hard task. Anything simple like a smile can work. An excellent way to pay it forward also to spread is when someone witnesses a good deed happening in front of them. To see the joy is contagious in that others what to be a part of that goodness as well.

I chose this image because it shows a heart for love but also butterflies which have such a personal meaning to me. This assignment was on the topic of love. A quiz was first taken, and then the results reviewed to see where you fell on the line in comparison to the mean. My different love styles went right along with how I view myself. I learned the different Greek meanings of the love styles and explored the stories of the different Greeks that inspired them. On a daily basis, we are continually changing by learning and growing every day. The life cycle of the butterfly is my absolute favorite. Without change, there would be no butterflies. Many events that I have experienced in my life, at times I need to tell myself that I am still a caterpillar and that soon after I have gained experience and wisdom, I will eventually become a butterfly.

I choose this photo because it says to me, why can’t we all just get along. Life is hard enough, why do we always have to cut people down. When I had started the assignment 3, I wanted to see the other views on how it was perceived and how Michael had acted afterward. I was pleased to find a comedian such as Dave Chappelle had talked about the night but had said along the lines that Michael was having a bad night the night the tirade had taken place. I do not want to give it the okay, that even though he was wrong and knew he was wrong does not excuse the behavior. I do like how in the video on The Tonight Show that he said he had some things he needed to work towards to better himself. Seeing a problem is the first step in addressing his anger outburst. According to the attitude-to-behavior process theory, the attitude that first appears is spontaneous. This quick thinking is not appropriate in certain situations. The tirade was very clear in Michael’s case that he acted spontaneously. Hopefully, this is a lesson that others can learn from and end these racial slurs.

I like this quote because of so many times when we are trying to better ourselves we are looking outside ourselves. When we first love ourselves everything else will fall into place. During the assignment, I was able to focus on my true self and what it meant to me. So many times we find ourselves overwhelmed with social media and trying to keep up with others. When you look at photos that others post it is usually the happy stuff, and we will only see that side. There have been studies that show when you are on social media we are more likely to come away with negative feelings when you do not comment on others posts. I have found this true in my own life. I can scroll through my news feed and see others and envy them and their “perfect” lives. When I comment and express that I am happy for them in whatever the case may be that I am truly happy for my friends and their accomplishments. At times I can find myself comparing to others, and after reading this chapter, I am more self-aware of not only how I judge myself but others as well.

Studying heuristics was enlightening to see behind the scenes of how people come to certain conclusions. Daily I am using representative heuristics. Understanding heuristics has made me think more about how I view other people. Keeping in mind that the first thought is not always accurate. When information is readily available it is easy to decide that that is the highest probability. Shark Week on Discovery Channel creates more fear in people than any other time of year of a shark attack happening to them. Even though on average only six people a year die of a shark attack. Anchoring and adjustment are used in the retail industry. I love a good deal when buying clothes and shoes. Many times I fall right into the hands of the sellers when they portray what a great deal you are getting. When you are educated on the different heuristics, you can think first when making complex decisions.
