Assignment 1 Takeaway 

After completing this assignment  I realized how open I am to other cultures yet closed-minded and stubborn at the same time. I will happily embrace other cultures, up to a certain point. I used Korean culture as one because they have such beautiful artwork, historical sites, etc. Not just Korea but Japan too.

Growing up I would watch the Japanese/Korean cartoons and see how they went to school, the food they ate, the places they went, and I remember so desperately wanting to do that and live there.  I felt their culture was so magical like a fantasy. Working on this assignment triggered those feelings again however as I got older I started to see other sides of the Korean culture that I didn’t like.

The rise and fall to stardom in the Korean and Japanese entertainment industry can be so cruel, I feel even crueler than the US. I recently saw in the news that there have been suicidal deaths from actors and singers in Korea and Japan. They were also so incredibly young. It pained me because I knew why and at one point I regretted ever thinking that place was magical. However, I realized, with the help of this assignment, that I can still love the beauty of the culture and not support their ways of the entertainment industry.
