This assignment required for me to create a review about a scholarly article concerning cybersecurity. I was to connect the paper with elements learned in my class and also was directed to summarize parts of the article. This is article 2 of 2, this time using a different scholarly article from a different journal.
Connection to social sciences (3)
This article relates to three social sciences, determinism, objectivity, and empiricism. It relates to determinism because it implies that the behavior and increased stress from female employees in Saudi Arabia could be because of cyberbullying, it also relates to objectivity because the article does not focus or outright say that cyberbullying is bad, only focusing on how it affects female employees in the workplace and not giving opinions. The authors also portray ethical neutrality in the paper, as they do not interfere with what happens in the workplace but instead only gives out surveys and records information with the consent of the female employees, they are surveying.
Research question/hypothesis
The research question for this article is how cyberbullying affects female employees in Saudi Arabia, specifically focusing on the extent of affect it has with workplace satisfaction, perceived interactional justice, organizational commitment, and psychological stress.
Research methods
To collect information about female employee’s satisfaction and whatnot, a questionnaire was made that used several different measures to satisfy the research question. The researchers sent out the surveys to female employees in several Saudi Arabian companies and received the surveys with the employee’s consent.
Types of data/analysis done
The data used in the article is data they gathered from the surveys, the surveys contain information that details a female workers work satisfaction, stress, if they’ve experienced any cyber harassment, organizational commitment, and perceived interactional justice. The data is analyzed and scored onto charts, where the researchers find the correlation between cyberbullying and psychological effects on the female employees who participated in the survey.
Concepts in class relative to article (4)
There are several concepts that were brought up in class that may have relativity to the article, these concepts being the psychological consequences to cyber victims, surveys in cybersecurity research, human factors, and knowledge of victimization. Psychological consequences to cyber victims are implied in the paper as the researchers find a positive correlation between cyberbullying and stress on female employees, though it is also connected to knowledge of victimization since the female employees must acknowledge they’ve been harassed or treated unwell online. Human factors are also relative to the article because stress in female employees due to cyberbullying could affect how well they work, and in turn how well a company succeeds. Finally, surveys in cybersecurity research are relative because the researchers used a survey to gather their information and was a vital part of the article.
Challenges/concerns/contributions to marginalized group (2)
This paper raises awareness for women in the Saudi Arabian workplace, as it researches cyberbullying on female employees before. It also generally contributes to research on female employees in Saudi Arabia, as it seems there is a lesser amount of research on female employees compared to male.
Contributions to society (2)
This paper contributes to the research done on female employees in Saudi Arabia and advocates for better work environments, highlighting how companies should better care for their female employees as stress affects how they work and their loyalty to the company.
