The role I’ve chosen to discuss and took an interest in is System Administrator. A system administrator can be a person, group, or organization, and they have the duty of setting up and maintaining a system or specific components of it (System Administrator). Reading from the provided document, the system administrator is a core part of the cybersecurity team because they do much needed hands-on work to maintain the organizations software and also make sure the systems that everyone works on remains working properly. Although they do not sound like they do work that is initially thought of when first thinking of cybersecurity, they help those who do work on the organization’s cybersecurity by maintaining software, and they also manage authorization rights and create or delete employee accounts whenever needed. Reading from the CISA (a government agency that specifically deals with cyber defense) website, some specific duties of a system administrator would be conducting and testing connectivity to make sure it is functional, maintaining baseline system security whilst following organizational policies, installing, updating and troubleshooting servers and systems, performing repairs on faulty hardware, and many more but somewhat similar duties.
Without system administrators, a cybersecurity team would be unable to ensure that employees have proper authorizations because administrators are in charge of assigning employee accounts and enabling certain authorizations. A cybersecurity team would most likely be unable to work properly or at least in a diligent pace, as improper maintenance of hardware may cause for it to degrade, and improper maintenance of software may cause for it to become outdated and therefore lesser functional.
