CYSE201S Journal Entry 10

I agree with and share the same opinions as discussed in the article on social cybersecurity. Due to the prevalent use of cyber technology and Internet of Things devices, society is moving away from physical acts and towards acts done through the cyberspace. The information warfare discussed in the article is not an entirely new concept. In previous times, information has been used to influence society. For example, during war periods propaganda can be seen in the form of posters. Those posters were meant to influence society to support the war efforts and to highlight the enemy’s wickedness. Information warfare and propaganda both intend to influence society however, information warfare is intended to sow distrust and weaken the bond of the enemy while propaganda is used to strengthen and unify a society.  As stated in the article, I also believe that in order to protect our society and minimize the effect of information warfare we must educate our defensive forces and society itself to understand the concept of information warfare and be able to recognize attempts of information warfare. Information warfare is harder to detect and thus, harder to defend against from however, educating our society is a step forward.
