Digital forensics as a career relates to criminology due to the crime aspect, psychology due to human interactions and sociology due to social behavior. The career was a result of digital devices being more incorporated into society. The speaker’s story regarding the pathway to his career is typical of those who got into the digital forensics field in its early stages as well as most IT related careers. As the speaker stated, individuals either fall into the career or get placed there. What surprised me the most was that the speaker’s original profession is accountancy which has no relation to information technology or digital forensics. The speaker being able to move up to a bigger accounting firm and then to digital forensics is evidence of how technical skills and knowledge are needed in the field. Although the speaker did not know much about computers in the beginning, the speaker gained enough experience through the years to fully transition to digital forensics. Even without formal education, with the proper skills and knowledge as well as an opportunity an individual can work in digital forensics.
