CYSE201S Journal Entry 3

The site privacyrights.org compiles laws in the different states that would relate to data breaches. The information ranges from determining what is personal identifiable information, notification requirements and to enforcement penalties. By compiling the different laws in each state, researchers will have a better understanding of data breaches in a geographical point of view. Additionally, the information on laws can help researchers predict potential targets of data breaches by pinpointing areas with very relaxed laws or weak punishment and enforcement. Researchers would also be able to use the geographical information to prioritize and focus on certain areas where more data breaches occur. The more information acquired by researchers, the better they will be able to understand and potentially prevent data breaches from occurring. The site also provides public information on some known data breach cases which is helpful to the public and can serve as a written record of data breach cases.
