Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, which categorizes human needs into five levels, finds resonance in my experiences with technology. At the base, technology helps fulfill our physiological needs by enabling access to food, water, shelter, and sleep-related resources. Moving up, it contributes to safety needs through security systems and online financial services. For love and belongingness, technology connects us with others through social media and messaging apps. Esteem needs are influenced by digital achievements and feedback, while self-actualization is facilitated through online learning, creativity tools, and personal development apps. However, it’s essential to use technology mindfully, as overuse can disrupt these needs and lead to negative consequences such as isolation and decreased self-esteem. Striking a balance between digital experiences and real-life interactions is crucial in harnessing technology’s benefits while preserving our overall well-being.
