Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs model is used to determine how the components of humans’ motivation consist of different levels of needs. The levels of Maslow’s hierarchy include physiological, safety, love, esteem, and self-actualization. The physiological aspect combined with my experience with technology is interesting because of the sleep aspect of this hierarchy. I tend to stay up late due to the fact that I am scrolling through social media accounts, which affects my circadian rhythm in a negative way. For the safety aspects of Marlow’s hierarchy, I think the usage of technology can be an advantage and disadvantage for this section. Technology is an advantage because technological innovations provide reliable data that can spread information worldwide in a few seconds. The disadvantages of technology include an individual experiencing cyberthreats. I do not display any information, photographs, or videos on my social media, so I feel safe using social media due to the fact that I am very private on my accounts. I like how using technology helps me keep in contact with friends, family, and classmates. My experience with respect to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is interesting. I live in a generation that revolves around the use of technology. Technology can damage a person’s self-confidence. If I am struggling with self-confidence issues, I delete my social media accounts and touch grass. I believe that technology should be used in moderation, and individuals should have boundaries set up to maintain a healthy balance. Technological innovations and self-actualization are also interesting because it depends on the internet user, such as how the individual shows their creativity on the internet or if an individual is posting information that can be controversial. My generation uses social media for a lot of things, such as creating funny videos, sharing political views, promoting an organization, and more. From my experience, I tend to stay private on the internet and do not post content on my story. It was fascinating to learn more about Marlow’s hierarchy of needs from a technological standpoint and how society revolves around technology in various of ways.
