I learned a lot of information from reading these articles about the rise of cybercrime, such as the reasons people commit cybercrimes and the negative outcomes data breaches cause for individuals or organizations. These articles were interesting to read. I have a few interesting opinions about each individual motive. I think most of these motives make no sense because most of these individuals do not have a valid reason to hack, but ranking these crimes in order from cybercrimes that make the most sense (being 1) to the least sense (being 7), the order would be money, revenge, recognition, entertainment, boredom, political, and multiple reasons. I placed money and revenge as the first two cybercrimes that make the most sense due to the fact that I feel like these two concepts are the main reasons why people commit cybercrimes. The world loves money and seeks revenge. I placed recognition in third due to the fact that people love doing unnecessary things for attention, which makes sense to me that an individual would hack an organization or random members of society. I selected entertainment and boredom towards cybercrimes that make the least sense because I do not understand how an individual could say “I’m bored, I should hack people for the fun of it”, like that’s weird to me. Personally, when I am bored, I watch YouTube or take a walk outside. It’s weird to me that people decided that disrupting an individual or organization’s data was entertaining. Additionally, I choose to place politics as a cybercrime that makes the least sense because the standpoint that I recognize from the political article is a group of individuals that are mad at the world for “reasons” and want to cause distress to others. Furthermore, I decided to list multiple reasons for cybercrime that are not important due to the fact that this article discusses many reasons for the current trend of cybercrime rising.
