How has cyber technology created opportunities for workplace deviance?
- Workplace deviance has increased with the years due to how those in a workplace have more access to technology now than they did in the past 50 years. Because if we look back that long, workplaces use to have the big clunky box computers that barely did anything and most of them did not have the internet but simply a software on the computer used to complete and finish work that needed to be done. Now a days anyone with a computer at work can do pretty much anything they wanted to online and access anything through their computer at work. This makes way for employees to access any type of information they want right from their desk like information about the company and possibly become a privacy risk to the company itself or get caught up looking deeper through information not meant for them to access. Another way technology could insight deviance is through an employee accessing information themselves and tampering with it to where they mess up the process or operation of a business network. This could severely impact a business negatively due to the idea of the business having to fix the issue that a employee caused. I think lastly the biggest issue with technology and the workplace is if someone were to be on break or not busy and just simply look up a site not typically accessed at their work place and that site have a virus or some type of negative impact behind it a hacker could easily infiltrate a company through cracking a site and stealing information. This would necessarily hurt a company like McDonald’s due to the lack of valuable information but if it were to be a company like Navy Federal where there’s valuable information or assets behind hacking into it this would be very beneficial for that hacker.
