Initially, I was only interested in Cybersecurity Technology due to the urges from my father, convincing me that the demand for Cybersecurity is currently skyrocketing. He explained to me that many businesses are in need of Cybersecurity specialists and that the industry is on the rise. Even though at first I selected cybersecurity as my major for occupational reasons and not out of my own interest, I already am learning more every single day which fuels my fascination with cybersecurity.
Cybersecurity isn’t just protecting internet users from hacks. While that is a large and valid portion of cybersecurity, it is more than that. I am intrigued by the vastness of cybersecurity which encompasses many different aspects. It ranges from protecting user data to even preventing cyberbullying. It deals with not only computer science and information technology but also relates to law, psychology, criminal justice, philosophy, political science, and engineering. I think that it is amazing that cybersecurity can be applied across a wide range of disciplines. For any business you can think of, they more than likely require cybersecurity protection.
Cybersecurity also isn’t all defensive and protective. While the goal is to establish overall security, I learned it can be offensive as well. Many cybersecurity professionals’ jobs are to be similar to a hacker and try to break into applications and exploit their weaknesses. The defensive and offensive operations both work together and find ways to establish security. The duality of cybersecurity is truly astonishing, ranging from ethical hacking to pure protection.
The sheer vastness and duality of cybersecurity is definitely astounding to me. Cybersecurity is so unique in the aspect that it can be applied to almost any and every discipline, and is intriguing in the way that cybercrime has been growing extremely over the last few years in America.
