Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs visualizes the hierarchy of needs all humans have. The pyramid-shaped diagram places psychological, safety, belongingness, esteem, and self actualization needs on it beginning with psychological needs at the bottom and self actualization needs at the top. As bottom-level needs are met, humans focus on meeting their needs moving up the pyramid. I myself rely on technology in order to meet my needs on this hierarchy. I don’t consider the use of technology a psychological need, but definitely a safety need. I utilize my cell phone as a location service and a means of communication in case of emergencies. I also use technology for my belongingness needs in order to connect with loved ones through calls, text, and even playing games together on a computer. As a cybersecurity major, I anticipate the use of technology in order to help with my accomplishments. However, I cannot see myself relying on technology for my self-actualization needs.
