Step 1:
- Currently for each class I set aside a couple hours a week to study. For the most part I study in between classes or right after my last class for the day. I make flashcards and write things repeatedly to remember topics. Some techniques I use in class are taking notes and then I use those notes out of class to study.
- One class I am doing well in is Elementary Statistics. I am doing well in that class because I take notes everyday and I study with a friend. This works best because we are able to go over topics we are struggling with and focus on those topics. With the focus on our weakness, it causes us to get a better understanding of everything.
Step 2:
- One class I am experiencing challenges is Interpreting the American Past. Planning: A strategy I will use for this class is taking good notes then going back and highlighting key parts. I plan on studying 3-4 hours a week for this class. During that time I plan on doing the reading assignments and going over the topics. An aspect I should spend more time on is the older content. I know more about the recent events so I should focus more of my time on the topics I am unsure about. Monitoring: I occasionally study the material but most of my studying is done before exams or assignments. I am taking advantage of the learning support available to me because I have used the search engine for multiple assignments to find reliable sources. I am struggling with my motivation to study because I am not that interested in history. Whenever I am not interested in something, I struggle with doing the schoolwork. Evaluating: An exam preparation that worked is keeping all of my notes from the readings. Most of the information we learn is through the readings. Before the exam I went over all of my notes and pulled up prior readings. Something that didn’t work was getting the motivation to do it. The exam was essay style and we did it on our own time. I struggled to actually sit down and write the answers.
- Forgetting the curve. I could try this technique so I actually retain the information we learn in class. Normally I go to class and take notes. However, once I leave the class it is like I forgot everything I learned. If I follow this technique it will better help me understand and remember the material.
- One technique I can use out of class to better understand the material is to join a study group. If I have other people to bounce my ideas off of it will help me remember it for my exams. Whenever I have discussions I remember the information better and know how to use it in exams/essays.
