The NFL has been a part of my family for as long as I can remember. Although my dad is a Chicago Bears fan, the majority of my family are Redskins fans which are now called the Washington Commanders. When I was younger I became a Redskins fan not knowing how bad they were until I actually started watching them but I was only a fan of them because the majority of my family was and the Redskins were all I really knew of. But after all their losses for like two decades straight, I decided I was no longer a Redskins fan and would just remain not a fan of any team instead of hoping on the bandwagon of becoming a fan of a team that was actually good.
As of January 20, 2024, I became a San Francisco 49ers fan and not just because I wanted to hop on the bandwagon because they were one game away from going to the Super Bowl. Let me explain to you why I became a fan. In my Sports Communication class we were allowed to pick a team that we thought were going to the Super Bowl and if our prediction was right we would receive extra credit points for the right pick. I decided to go with the 49ers because I saw their ambition and greediness that they had to go to the Super Bowl. On top of that, who wouldn’t want extra credit for choosing the right team !?? So I decided to go with my gut and I had got confirmation from someone that knew more about football than me so I went for it.
Unfortunately, my hopes for extra credit were shot and me becoming a 49ers fan was short lived. I bet you could guess why. Yup, they sold me at the very end of the game. They had me in the first half when they were up ten points up and the Chiefs were not scoring anything. So with all this being said, I took it upon myself to go onto X, previously known as Twitter, and rant just a little bit about the disappointment I had towards the 49ers for missing my chance of extra credit. My disappointment was not only towards me losing extra credit but also the faith I had in them for them to turn around and fold with less than two minutes left of the game. Not only did the 49ers cost me my extra credit but they also lost me as a fan, that I was only for about three weeks. But if you ask me, I honestly think the game was rigged and the Chiefs were set to win the Super Bowl all along but that’s just my opinion.
