Select four other majors offered by ODU and explain how those majors relate to cybersecurity. Cybersecurity has emerged as a critical domain safeguarding the global web in the rapidly evolving technological age. The numerous aspects of this field is recognized by ODU which offers a variety of majors that contribute to an expansive awareness and execution of cybersecurity measures. I chose four ODU majors, demonstrating how each contributes to the strengthening of our digital infrastructure. The field of computer science is at the heart of cybersecurity. The Computer Science major at ODU is a pillar that provides students with knowledge of programming languages, algorithms, and data structures. These abilities are required for developing secure software and applications. Computer scientists are critical in developing strong encryption algorithms, securing networks, and implementing security protocols that serve as the foundation of cybersecurity platforms. The Information Technology (IT) major approaches cybersecurity in an accessible way. IT professionals are educated in the management and security of technology infrastructure, with a focus on network security and system administration. This major’s hands-on skills are useful in implementing security measures in a variety of IT environments. IT specialists are critical to the day-to-day operation of secure systems and the quick response to cybersecurity incidents. For those interested in the legal aspects of cybersecurity, a major in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Cybercrime provides a unique perspective. This program covers the legal and ethical aspects of cybersecurity, as well as an understanding of cyber laws and the role of the criminal justice system in prosecuting cybercriminals. The Engineering Technology – Cyber Physical Systems major at ODU goes beyond the virtual realm to emphasize the integration of physical and digital systems. This major is critical for securing industrial control systems, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and other cyber-physical systems in the context of cybersecurity. Those who enroll in this program will gain a thorough understanding of the vulnerabilities and safeguards required in the convergence of physical and digital domains. ODU’s diverse range of majors contributes to the field of cybersecurity in a synergistic way. While Computer Science lays the technical groundwork, Information Technology provides practical skills, Criminal Justice with a Cybercrime concentration addresses legal issues, and Engineering Technology investigates the security of interconnected systems.
