Throughout the program, I’ve had the chance to work on technical and real-world assignments that helped me understand how different areas of technology connect. Some of the valuable skills I learned are troubleshooting, critical thinking, and learning how to approach problems strategically. These skills came from courses focused on assignments where I had to apply what I was learning.

One of the most valuable learning experiences during my time at ODU was working on hands-on assignments, especially those that required problem-solving, like labs and security-related exercises. These experiences stood out because they challenged me to think deeper and figure things out on my own instead of following simple instructions. Projects like password cracking and system troubleshooting helped me understand how concepts apply in real situations, which made the learning more meaningful.

At the same time, there were definitely obstacles along the way. Some of the technical concepts were difficult at first, especially when I didn’t fully understand how different systems worked together. There were also moments where assignments felt overwhelming, especially when I had to troubleshoot errors without clear guidance. I worked through these challenges by practicing more, reviewing course materials, and sometimes going back to basics to strengthen my understanding.

Previous courses played a big role in helping me succeed throughout the program. For example, earlier classes that focused on basic IT concepts and networking helped me better understand more advanced cybersecurity topics later on. Each course was built on the last, which made it easier to connect ideas and apply them in more complex situations. You can see examples of this growth in my portfolio, especially in my projects and skills sections, where I demonstrate how my knowledge has developed over time.

IDS 493 is a course focused on creating and refining a professional portfolio that showcases your skills, experiences, and growth. It’s designed to help you reflect on what you’ve learned and present it in a way that would be useful for future employers or opportunities.

One of the most valuable parts of IDS 493 was learning how to organize and present my work in a clear and professional way. It made me think more about how to explain my skills and experiences instead of just listing them. I also learned how important it is to include examples and evidence to support what I’m saying, which made my portfolio stronger overall.

I think one thing I did well in my portfolio was showing my growth over time. I included different projects and experiences that highlight both my technical skills and my ability to learn and improve. The part I’m most proud of is my projects section because it shows actual work I’ve completed and gives a better picture of what I can do.

If someone could only look at one thing in my portfolio, I would want them to see my projects or assignments page. That section best represents my abilities because it includes real examples of my work and problem-solving skills.

One challenge I faced during IDS 493 was figuring out how to organize everything in a way that made sense and didn’t feel repetitive. It was also a little difficult to decide what to include and how much detail to give. I worked through this by revising my pages, simplifying my layout, and focusing on the most important information.

If I had more time, I would improve my portfolio by adding more examples and possibly more visuals like screenshots or project details. This would make it stronger and more engaging for someone reviewing it.

Previous courses helped a lot with this class because I already had the content to build from. Without those earlier assignments and experiences, I wouldn’t have had much to include in my portfolio. IDS 493 really brought everything together and helped me present it in a professional way.

The interdisciplinary approach is important because it shows how areas work together. Being able to make those connections helped me understand the bigger picture and solve problems effectively. Understanding how they connect makes it easier to adapt and troubleshoot in real-world situations.

After ODU, my next steps are to continue building my skills, gain more hands-on experience, and work toward starting a career in Cybersecurity. I also plan to keep learning and improving so I can stay up to date in a field that is always changing.

My experience at Old Dominion University has helped me build a strong foundation in cybersecurity.
