Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication
Exploring Culture
The products and practices that helped me gain an understanding of cultural perspectives is by being apart of professional development that can help fill in the gaps of my knowledge and understanding and by being open-minded to those cultures of the people around me.
By being open-minded and making myself apart of development of my knowledge it helped me to better understand the values and the attitudes in the Hispanic culture as well as my own because it let me see and experience the unique aspects that sets everyone apart from each other. These products and practices challenged my worldview because it made me step outside of my comfort zone to see that there is more exciting things out there to experience that I would love to be apart of one day. The challenges that prevailed from these new perspectives is that others may not be as open-minded and turn to disrespect these cultural experiences of others so, they may feel a shame to express themselves fully and down the line these cultural perspectives will seize to exist as they once did. I personally did not have any stereotypes or misconceptions coming into viewing this new perspective because of the cultural background that I was raised in.
Exploring-CultureEngaging in Communities
The values and importance of engaging in your immediate and global community is it gives a better understanding of communities’ aspirations and it drives for social changes globally.Personally, I have not engaged in any form of community instead, I have become more aware of those communities. By doing this I have gained more knowledge in certain areas to one day be able to engage to make a dramatic affect on the social changes happening forward.
Discussion-Board-4Interpersonal Communication
Throughout this course I completed five discussion board activities where I was asked by my professor to complete a task and then, to comment on a fellow classmates post with feedback. Additionally, throughout this course I completed five conversation scenarios with a partner. In these conversations I practiced introducing myself in Spanish and usage of different verbs and vocabulary taught throughout the course.
At the beginning of the course I gained the knowledge necessary to identify keywords in sentence spoken or written in order to identify what was being asked of me. As the semester progressed throughout the class I was not only able to identify things being told or written towards me in Spanish, I was also able to reciprocate it back in simple context either verbal or written. The most difficult aspect to grasp from this course was gender agreement. The way I overcame this task was making sure that I wrote out everything in English then translated it into Spanish on paper first to make sure it all lined up and made sense before I spoke. I personally, felt like I excelled in pronunciation because I took it letter by letter to make sure everything was enunciated. One big thing that I learned from this course by doing these assignments is how to properly build a foundation to get the basic Spanish. One thing that I would do differently, is practice way more.
Coversation-2-QuestionsPresentational Speaking
Throughout this course the presentational speaking activities I completed were conversations with a partner. Where we were asked to introduce ourselves with our names, age, where we live, what we study, and our current emotion state. In individual evaluations our professor asked a variety of questions to get understanding of our ability to listen to questions in Spanish and then answer back in a complete sense using correct verbs and gender agreement.
For the conversation projects one through four the only real challenge that I struggled with was gender agreement. The way I overcame this common issue was writing out everything that I was going to say before hand in order to make sure everything agreed and made sense. In the very last conversation project I struggled with verb agreement to make comparisons between two sentences. The way that I overcame this issue is combining to two sentences that I have already constructed and then add a comparison verb between them. It was a perfect sentence but, I am. very confident that with more practice through my Spanish journey it will get better. One thing I excelled in very well is introducing myself in Spanish. Something I would conduct differently is the amount of practice that I put into my presentations. The way I would do is by making it a habit to say my script everyday all the way through so, my pronunciation is adequate.
Presentational Writing
There were many forms of presentational writing that I conducted during this course. The main task that was. assigned to start off is simple sentences. When that technique was mastered we were assigned the task to write a short professional letter using particular verbs learned throughout the course of the class.
Proyecto-5As I progressed through these assignments it became almost second hand for me to form sentences and when and how conjugate verbs and the gender agreement in sentence. As each sentenced was added I instantly had a paragraph or two that made sense in Spanish. The only thing that became easier for me was conjugating verbs in different contexts and I am still practicing gender agreement to eventually have it master for my future years of Spanish ahead of me. The only way I could overcome these constant difficulties is with constant practice. To ensure that better progress is made for next time is to make sure that I have time set aside to practice and gain skill.
Interpretive Listening
One of the interpretive listening activities that we completed this semester is listening to recordings of words being. said in Spanish and then identify those words from a list. We also, listened to lots of stories being told in Spanish and we had to answer questions based on those stories.
One of the things we listened to this semester to start off our foundation of learning is the vocabulary. By first and then hearing the vocabulary I learned how to enunciate the words. This was done so, by replaying the audio over and saying the words along side the audio. As the course progressed we were asked to identify words from a recording and I was able to complete this with ease by simply listening to each syllable being said. The unclear or challenging part that I encounter was listening to long passages and trying identify what the main idea of the recording is. The most interesting or compelling thing that I found is how a question can be rearranged with the same words to answer its self. So if you listen to question carefully and rearrange the verb conjugation and adjectives you can answer it with ease. The takeaway from the listening experience is being to identify keywords to be able to grasp the main idea. As each activity has passed my listening skills and translation all in one have improved tremendously.
