Cybersecurity started to peak my interests when I joined the united states coast guard back in 2021. I had to pick a job when I reported to my first unit and I chose Intel because the Coast Guard didn’t have a cyber job at the time. I always wanted to try something different and I know I could get a good job in the future. When I thought to pursue a degree in cybersecurity, I did not know what it entailed or what it was all I know is it sounded pretty fun and I wanted to learn more. What ultimately drove me to pursue a cybersecurity degree is, the era that we are in is tech driven and with a influx in digital platforms cyber threats are imminent and very common. The military and working in Intel has made me more aware of how I share info, who I share it to and how easily it can be obtained by someone you have never met. In the state of the world cyber crimes against our military can cause an impact on national security. Technology is becoming our new battlefield in which we need to protect. cybersecurity also interested me because of the flexibility. Cyber security jobs could be done remotely in the office or while on vacation in some cases. Flexibility is very important to me because I want a rewarding career that doesn’t demand me to take time off from my family during the holidays, as I’ve done working in the military for almost three years. Cybersecurity can gain you a job in a number of fields such as the law enforcement psychology and social science. Cybersecurity is on track to being one of the fastest growing fields and the entry pay for someone who has just graduated college is very good.
