Engineers have a very important job by not only keeping the world safe, but also, they also work to make cyber networks safer using a range of different methods. One keyway is by using encryption, encryption switches data to make it unreadable to anyone who doesn’t have the proper access or need to know/access. This helps keep sensitive information safe, even if someone tries to intercept it. Another important tool is a firewall, think of it like a security guard working for the network. It watches the traffic coming in and going out and blocks anything that looks suspicious or unfamiliar. By putting up this barrier, engineers keep out unwanted visitors, like hackers trying to break into the network from the internet. They also use things called Intrusion Detection Systems also known as an IDS system and Intrusion Prevention Systems known as an IPS. IDS keeps an eye on the network for any mishaps. If it sees something fishy, it sends an alert to the network administrators so they can take action. IPS goes a step further by actively stopping these threats in their tracks, adding an extra layer of protection. Engineers also make sure only the right people who have a need to know have access to the network. They set up strong passwords and sometimes use things like fingerprints or ID cards to make sure only authorized users get in. Regular check-ups are important too, engineers do routine audits to find any weak spots in the network’s defenses. When they find something, they fix it by updating software or adding extra security measures. They also teach employees about staying safe online, by training them to spot phishing emails and other tricks used by cybercriminals and hackers, they help everyone in the organization play a part in keeping the network safe. All these efforts work together to create a safer cyber world, where networks can withstand attacks and keep running smoothly.
